Today I heard on the news on the radio that according to the latest reports from climate scientists, we need a "TOTAL transformation of ALL systems to keep our planet livable. This is chopping hard. The consequences are not misunderstood but what does this mean to so many of us?

We will need to adapt and emancipate ourselves for a less anthropocentric world and nature view. We will need to create new forms of life and expression that allow us to become and be different, perceive differently, think differently, feel differently and open ourselves to the great other with which climate change challenges us. In this context, art, music, science and technology will have an important task to make new insights and perceptions that change our consciousness and view of "the world" and learn to open up what we do not want to see, do not want to hear, do not want to feel. Not denying but exploring new forms of life will alone be able to save us. As far as classical music is concerned, our historical orientation that we have been trapped in for two hundred years now will have to retrain and re-energize for an emancipation of the new, the different, the strangeness of nature focused on the here and now and the future. We zullen ons moeten aanpassen en emanciperen voor een minder antropocentrisch wereld en natuurbeeld. We zullen nood hebben aan het maken van nieuw levens en expressievormen die ons de mogelijk bieden anders te worden en anders te zijn, anders waar te nemen, anders te denken, anders te voelen en ons open te stellen voor de grote andere waarmee de verandering van het klimaat ons uitdaagt. Kunst, muziek, wetenschap en technologie zullen in dit verband een belangrijke taak weggelegd zijn nieuwe inzichten en waarnemingsvormen te maken die ons bewustzijn en blik op 'de wereld' verandert en leert te openen voor wat we niet willen zien, niet willen horen, niet willen voelen. Niet het ontkennen maar verkennen van nieuwe levensvormen zal ons vooruit helpen. Wat klassieke muziek betreft zal onze historische gerichtheid waar we nu reeds tweehonderd jaar in vertoefden en de laatste tijd ook in gevangen zitten, zich moeten herscholen en herbronnen voor een op het hier en nu en op de toekomst gerichte emancipatie van het nieuwe, het andere, de vreemde van de natuur. Niet langer de restauratie van het historische verleden maar de restauratie van de toekomst is nu de uitdaging. Niet de natuur als een eindeloos uit te putten bron maar de natuur als kosmische biotoop van resonantie, aanpassing en verandering.
